What We See in Florissant Homes
Florissant saw a housing boom after World War II, and thousands of brick ranch homes from the 1950s and 1960s still line its streets. Many of these homes have a single chimney that vents the furnace and water heater, sometimes alongside a fireplace. Old Town Florissant, Missouri's first zoned historic district, has even older homes with original masonry chimneys.
Common problems we find in Florissant
- 1950s and 1960s chimneys venting gas furnaces and water heaters through original, unlined or deteriorated flues
- Furnace or water heater replacements that changed venting needs without updating the chimney
- Crown and mortar wear on 60 to 70 year old brick chimneys
- Older dryer vents made of foil or plastic that should be replaced with metal
